Safe Exchange Zone is now available for use at Beachwood Police Department!

The Beachwood Police Department has established a “Safe Exchange Zone” in the front visitor parking lot of the Beachwood Municipal Complex, located at 1600 Pinewald Road, Beachwood NJ 08722.  The “Safe Exchange Zone” has been established for the public to utilize when conducting in-person transactions that have been facilitated through online marketplaces. The parking space and sidewalk area is indicated by signage.

The designated “Safe Exchange Zone” is available to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for conducting such in-person transactions facilitated online. The area is equipped with security cameras and all transactions will be video recorded, as well as routinely patrolled.  Access to the Police Department lobby may also be granted for “safe exchanges” Monday – Friday (excluding holidays) between the hours of 8:00 – 4:00pm.

This zone has been established as a courtesy to and for the protection of the Borough of Beachwood residents involved in conducting in-person transactions that have been facilitated through online marketplaces such as; Ebay, Craigslist, & Facebook marketplace.

The Borough of Beachwood and the Beachwood Police Department will make no guarantees, assurances, or promises as to the safety or security of any in-person transaction that may take place on Borough property. The Beachwood Police Department will not provide personnel or staff to witness, negotiate, or broker any transactions. The Beachwood Police Department will maintain video surveillance of the “Safe Exchange Zone”. The recorded video will be retained for a ten-day period.

The exchange of any type of weapons, destructive devices, controlled dangerous substances / CDS paraphernalia, or any other types of illicit goods are not permitted on our property.

While the Borough of Beachwood will not provide police personnel or staff to witness these transactions in person, the building’s video surveillance and proximity to police headquarters is meant to increase the public’s peace of mind when they meet strangers to buy or sell an item.
